Pavements: the backbone of transportation
Pavements are a crucial aspect of transportation infrastructure, carrying millions of vehicles every day. At Tonkin + Taylor, we understand the critical role pavements play in keeping our communities connected.
Cost-effectiveness and constructability are chief concerns when it comes to pavement investigation and design. But simple, pragmatic solutions require a thorough understanding of local and national design standards and requirements before planning and development is underway.
Approach to rehabilitation
Rehabilitation can be the most cost-effective approach to developing a pavement but experience and expertise are essential to the longevity of both rehabilitative and new designs.
We have a team of specialist pavement engineers with an intimate understanding of pavements and materials as well as construction and maintenance practices that sets out team apart from other geotechnical consultants. We have extensive knowledge of State Road Authority, Austroads and local council guidelines for designing new pavements and rehabilitating existing pavements.
Our expertise ranges from residential and commercial subdivisions to major arterials and freeways, airports, port facilities and intermodal terminals.
Anticipating and understanding the correct investigation methodology is key to provide the required information and make informed design decisions.
For intrusive pavement investigations, we can utilise our own in-house capability or also utilise the equipment and skilled operators of our sister company Chadwick Geotechnics.
The team completes a variety of high-risk, drilling, infield testing and NATA accredited soil laboratory services, which provides us with the information required to design pavements, walkways and associated infrastructure in almost any location.
