Catch a first glimpse of the stylish mixed use development that is at the heart of the Arden Macaulay urban renewal initiative. With a sloping site and a project vision to create a first-class landmark development, Arden Gardens needed strong geotechnical and environmental advice to meet its quality objectives.

The Government-led integrated urban renewal that is taking shape a mere two kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD is unmatched in many ways. Sophisticated strategic planning will turn this 56-hectare stretch of land into a global commercial and residential precinct with its own Metro Tunnel station. It’s nothing short of a total transformation for this former working-class suburb into a snappy, stylish strip and new inner city destination.

The precinct’s first notable mixed use development, Arden Gardens, was undertaken by CBD Development Group and had to live up to their reputation of delivering first-class developments. As such, the initial focus centred on the sloping site, with its variable ground and shallow groundwater conditions, in order to deliver the envisaged design. With extensive need for excavation, the developer turned to T+T for a range of specialist services and environmental advice.

Given the overriding focus on quality, initial investigations were supported by additional hydrogeological and geotechnical investigations. These supplementary investigations were critical for delivering an enhanced solution. It provided highly accurate data, vastly improved understanding of the risks involved and a clear picture of the available options. Most importantly, it ensured that the client could make sound decisions.

This sound approach proved a winner. It delivered the most effective solution for pile design and groundwater management while ensuring that the design could easily and cost-effectively be integrated into the different construction stages.
