Land management assessments

Tonkin & Taylor’s land management assessment services cover diverse disciplines that align with our geotechnical and soil contamination expertise.

Expertise

  • Water quality investigations
  • Property development liability investigations (land contamination)
  • Rehabilitation plans
  • Environmental and construction/geotechnical management plans
  • Salinity investigations
  • Phytophthora testing
  • Planning permit applications.

Experience

Typical project experience includes:

  • Property Development Liability Investigation, Diggers Rest - assessment of geotechnical, flora and fauna and soil contamination as a prepurchase investigation. A preliminary investigation assessment to determine the potential for liability across a 260 ha site was undertaken. A desktop and walkover flora and fauna assessment and a soil contamination assessment (with limited analysis) provided our client with an understanding of environmental considerations for the properties.
A net gain assessment determined offset requirements for vegetation removal. Similarly the geotechnical investigation provided details of construction requirements for pavements and buildings.

  • Environmental Management Plan for sub-division, Bayswater North - a plan detailing the requirements for environmental considerations, such as sediment/erosion control, soil stabilisation, protection of environmentally significant areas, noise control and vegetation removal. A flora and fauna assessment was also undertaken at this site. • Phytophthora analysis on construction material - Phytophthora cinnamomi (Cinnamon Fungus) is a root rot pathogen that destroys the roots of many native and introduced plants and has been found in quarries that provide construction materials for earthworks. Policies and guidelines recommend testing of construction materials to prevent the spread of this pathogen to new areas. Assessments have been undertaken for many quarries in the Melbourne metropolitan area.

  • Ongoing water investigation at potential landfill site - Regular sampling and analysis of water at the base of an operating quarry in the south-eastern growth corridor of Melbourne.

  • Planning permit following soil contamination, surface water and geotechnical investigations at a former quarry site in Melbourne - provision of advice on rehabilitation plans, discussions with regulatory authorities, provision of construction management plans, EPBC referral, de-watering plan and management of sub-contractors providing flora and fauna (and net gain) reports and traffic management reports.
