Environmental auditing
Tonkin & Taylor has expert staff accredited to
undertake environmental auditing in Victoria, New
South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia.
For those states which do not have contaminated
land environmental audit systems in place, T&T
auditors are regularly requested to provide expert
services in relation to site contamination issues.
Contaminated land auditing
Auditing involves the independent review and
appraisal of site assessment and/or remediation
work, with regard to future beneficial uses of the
site. The audit process not only includes land
contamination issues, but also in many cases
involves consideration of the groundwater
beneath the site.
In undertaking the environmental audit role, T&T
auditors must take account of all relevant state and
federal government guidelines, regulations and Acts.
Conclusions regarding levels of site contamination
(soil and groundwater) are based on the final site
condition as related to all potential and proposed
uses of land and groundwater.
Industrial facilities auditing
Industrial facility audits are similar to contaminated
land audits in that they quite often involve land
contamination issues. However, by definition they
are intended to involve the broader aspects of
industrial process sites. Accordingly, they cover
issues relating to air emissions, stormwater
and sewerage discharges, prescribed waste
management, dangerous goods storage, product life
cycle analysis, waste management and energy use.
Industrial audits often involve the consideration
of environmental management systems (EMS)
review, implementation and compliance.
Design and construction audits
T&T has significant experience in the field of
landfill design and construction audits. This
ranges from auditing the design and construction
of earth liner and geocomposite liner systems,
liner caps, groundwater quality and environmental
control systems for groundwater, leachate and
landfill gas management.
An audit may be triggered by a Clean Up Notice,
related statutory directives, or through Works
Approval applications where the applicant seeks
the input of an auditor to assist with the
development of an application.
